Strengthening partnerships for a
community-led, sustainable, and just food system.
Food in Communities (FIC) is a regional collaborative working to increase equitable access to healthy, affordable, and culturally important foods through food policies, systems, and environmental changes. The intent of FIC is to collectively cultivate and sustain neighborhood and regional-level changes that support community-driven priorities and build capacity among community leaders and food policy councils to strengthen the local and regional food system.
Our Values
The FIC team is invested in long-term systems change, however, we understand that in order to achieve this we need to:
-
Prioritize collaboration
-
Commit to building community-based food systems
-
Strive to embody equity as we work towards a sustainable and equitable food system
-
Center racial justice because it demands the creation of new institutions and relationships that honor the humanity and liberation of all peoples
-
Use our collective voice to address root causes
The Food in Communities team achieves its work by:
-
Partnering with community members and organizations to identify assets and needs related to food in our communities
-
Collaborating with new or existing neighborhood groups and organizations to design and implement food access, food justice, or food business opportunities
-
Supporting local food policy councils or coalitions to advocate for food policies that support community food needs and priorities
